Real Wedding

A Warm Day in Late March

Maria and Tony, married early in the spring, with portraits at the museum and a reception at Pine Ridge.

Willoughby, Ohio · April 2025

Maria and Tony were married on a warm day in late March, which is an unusual thing to be able to say about Northeast Ohio. Spring arrived early that year, and the two of them seemed to take it as a good sign.

Morning

Before anyone was watching

The hour before a ceremony is the quietest part of a wedding day and often the one people remember least, which is a good reason to photograph it carefully. A veil. A tie adjusted twice. A ring held up to the window for no particular reason.

The ceremony

The room went quiet

They exchanged vows in front of their friends and family, with Don Malleske officiating. The room went quiet while they spoke, and when it was over the applause came all at once.

Between

The wedding party, and the bus

From the ceremony everyone moved outside, then onto a limo bus that was loud in the best way, with music playing and almost nobody staying in a seat. Those rides are usually where a wedding party stops being a group of people in matching clothes and starts behaving like themselves.

University Circle

Portraits at the museum

We took Maria, Tony, and the wedding party to the Cleveland Museum of Art. The light was soft against the pale stone, and the wedding party kept laughing and dancing between frames, so a good number of these are pictures where nobody was holding still.

That is usually the better version. Holding still is what people do when they are thinking about the camera.

Evening · Willoughby

Pine Ridge

The reception was at Pine Ridge Country Club. Dino’s Catering handled dinner and DJ James Fruits kept the floor full into the night. The desserts were made by hand by Maria’s mother and her friends, which is the kind of detail that tells you more about a family than any amount of decor.
