After the ceremony we filmed at two places Cleveland couples know well. The Cultural Gardens gave us tree-lined paths and the color the season was already doing on its own, which keeps the tone calm and close. The Cleveland Museum of Art gave us the opposite: marble, clean lines, formality, and scale.

Using both in one afternoon is worth the drive. A film that stays in one register for six minutes gets tiring, and those two places are far enough apart in feeling to carry the middle of it.

Before the reception began the two of them took a short session outside on the property and spent a few minutes with the horses, which was the lightest part of a long day. As dusk came on the natural light softened enough for the portraits that close the film.

Inside, the room stayed lively. The ballroom handled the catering and Sahun Street kept the floor full all evening.

What I wanted from the film was the whole range of the day in one piece: the formal parts, the spontaneous ones, the quiet ones, and the celebration, cut so the feeling carries from one scene to the next rather than resetting at every cut.
