We started at the fountain downtown, right as the evening light was starting to soften. She showed up with two very different outfits in mind, a black gown for the first half and jeans for the second, and both turned out to be exactly her.
First half · The fountain

Most of the session was simple. Sit here, look toward the water, forget the camera is there for a second. That is really the whole method.

Second half
Enough guidance, and enough patience
I give some direction on where to look and how to sit, and then I wait for the moment where the instructions stop mattering and someone just starts being themselves. You can see it in the photographs where she is laughing at nothing in particular.
That is the balance I aim for on every senior session. Enough guidance to get a beautiful frame, enough patience to let the real person show up in it.
