Sophia changed dresses twice during this session, and neither felt like a costume change. The first, a strapless gown with a soft ivory shawl, worked beautifully against old stone doors and arched entryways. The second, a ruffled dress that moved every time she walked, was made for the garden paths and the stone staircase tucked into the trees nearby.
Joseph spent most of the evening watching her rather than the camera, which made our job easy. Documentary storytelling with editorial direction means we’re not manufacturing romance for a photo. We’re paying attention to what’s already there, the hand on the cheek, the laugh mid-step, the moment right before a dip, and giving it a setting that matches the feeling instead of competing with it.
Cleveland has no shortage of good backdrops for an engagement session, and this one leaned into the city’s older architecture: heavy carved doors, worn stone steps, boxwood hedges along a quiet garden path. Locations like this photograph differently depending on the time of day, and we planned around the last hour of light to get the warm, low glow you can see across most of these frames.
Sophia and Joseph, thank you for trusting us with this one.
